Getting Text Back From All Caps In Photoshop Elements (Not CAPS LOCK!)

After getting rather confused as to why my text layer in Photoshop Elements 6 would not budge from being in all caps (no not because of CAPS LOCK!) I discovered that to get it back to normal you need to do : Mac :
Command ('Apple Key') + Shift + Y
Windows :
Ctrl + Shift + Y
This will put the text back to sentence case or lower case (whatever it should be before it was being forced into all caps)

Instant fix! I don’t know why this isn’t the first fix on Adobe support!! Resetting doesn’t work, resetting the text tool in the non-existent “pop-up” doesn’t work. THANK YOU.

Omg thank you so much!! I was breaking my head why everything is only coming out uppercase and it was driving me crazy. This is such a quick and simple solution. I really thank you for this post!

  49. Anne says:

My Photoshop elements has done the “all caps” thing several times over the years but most of the time I just uninstall and re install and it corrects itself. Not this time. It’s been over 4 months. So I found your fix, and tried Control Shift Y, but it didn’t work. When exactly do you push those keys? Like, when I’ve got a text cursor ready? Or at start up? Sorry, I need more specifics. Thanks for your help!

    1. ANDRES says:

I think you have to press the keys when you are editing the text. So you have to open the text layer and edit it, and then press the keys. But the are some fonts that are only capital letters, so it won’t work with those.

    2. sheila says:

I just highlighted all my three paragraphs — which we in caps – and did the command shift Y and it worked like magic!

  50. Nancy says:

I, too, was going nuts because I could see no reason for the type to be all cap. As far as I know, I didn’t do anything to cause that. I’m glad you have a simple solution. Thank you so much!
